The client, one of the first in Portugal to use a mix of containers for seedling growth, transitioned from traditional polystyrene seed trays to containers made of rigid plastic and thermoformed plastic. This choice brought a new challenge: how to efficiently wash containers made of different materials, each requiring different water pressures and flow rates?
Seedling containers fall into four main categories:
- Polystyrene: typically single-use or with a limited lifespan (3–5 washes).
- Rigid plastic: an evolution of polystyrene, more durable and reusable.
- Thermoformed plastic: reusable containers, though single-use versions also exist.
- Support containers: not used directly for sowing, but serve as structural support.
The main challenge was finding a solution that would allow washing both polystyrene containers (which require lower pressure to avoid damage) and rigid plastic containers (which need higher pressure for effective cleaning).

This innovative system allows for adjusting the pressure and flow rate of the water exiting the nozzles, adapting to the different washing requirements for polystyrene and plastic containers.
Thanks to the frequency inverter, it is possible to manage different pump pressures directly from the control panel, optimizing the cleaning for both types of containers. Additionally, the water recycling system reduces waste, while an advanced filtration ensures the water can be reused for longer, decreasing the need for frequent replacement.
